Mindsurfing with RADA TZANKOVA

RADA TZANKOVA is an artist whose work is a meditation on life; the characters and images of which, occupy a world at the crossroads of reality and imagination. Her work dances back and forth on the edges of a series of opposites; drawing and painting, narration and abstraction, the conscious and unconscious, whether on paper or canvas, the possibilities are infinite. WHAT WAS YOUR VERY FIRST SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?

Trees…and also observing people’s attitudes and actions.

WHICH OF YOUR 5 SENSES IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU?

The 6th! …No really, it’s very difficult to choose. I’d say hearing and sight, I couldn’t survive without one or the other; to me they are inexorably linked. I work while listening to music or to nature sounds, which both evoke images in my mind. I would like my paintings to make music too.

HOW DO YOU ACCESS YOUR CREATIVITY?

I ‘clean house’ in every sense of the term, I go for a walk in the park or find a quiet place to sit and observe nature.

WHAT IS THE FIRST WORD THAT COMES TO YOUR MIND WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS IMAGE?

Femininity.
