Morning Glory: ERIC SHECKLER

ERIC SHECKLER is a Creative Director and Partner at Parts & Labour a communication design firm in Seattle.  Over the last twenty-plus years, Eric has offered his design & art direction skills to various organizations such as the Seattle Seahawks, Washington State Tourism, Warren Miller, PetSmart, VoiceStream, Taco Del Mar, Emerald Downs, to name a few. He’s named companies, developed taglines and products, designed logos, co-directed television and radio spots, designed outdoor boards and bus wraps, and has been involved in web design and development projects large and small. Eric took up rowing & the cello for his 40th birthday. As of late, he has given time to neither, beyond listening to Apocalyptica at impossibly loud volume.

WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP?
Hard to say, exactly. Left to my own devices, I rarely go to sleep. I wake up a few times over the course of the night – let the dogs out, or to clean up, having failed to let the dogs out earlier. Invariably, the day starts with a single phrase: “Well, ok then,”‘ sometimes spoken or thought, usually muttered. It’s my “lazy buddhist” ritual: Acknowledge, accept & then act. (generally by making coffee).
WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR BREAKFAST
Whatever’s at hand, often what I steal off my children’s plates.
ONE WORD THAT DESCRIBES YOUR MOOD IN THE MORNING?
Left-handed. (Wait, is that one word?)
WHAT GETS YOUR JUICES FLOWING?
Evidence of someone really giving a shit about what they’re doing. Full commitment to the act. Also, while I have utmost respect for those who have achieved mastery of their craft, I adore those who are still finding their way; they inspire me to put in the effort to try to attain a beginner’s mind as I approach projects.
